Analysis of two skeletons from Sulawesi found severe tooth wear and traces of arecoline, suggesting ancient foragers may have regularly sucked abrasive betel nuts as far back as 25,000 years ago. Researchers say this could be the earliest known evidence of human psychoactive drug use.
