Rwanda is restoring about 3,740 hectares around Volcanoes National Park to expand habitat for its growing mountain gorilla population. The effort is intended to ease territorial pressure and clashes with nearby farmers while creating local economic opportunities. It coincides with the annual Kwita Izina gorilla-naming ceremony and aims to support conservation, community incomes and tourism.
