ScienceNew dens offer wildlife safer places to shelter

Artificial dens in the desert north of Zhangye, Gansu Province, are helping Pallas’s cats and Asiatic wildcats rest and raise their young. Other animals use them for shelter and food storage. Built with anti-slip surfaces and accompanied by man-made water points, the facilities aim to support wildlife affected by drought and habitat degradation while informing longer-term conservation work.
