Mikhail Melekh, a Russian Foreign Minister’s special representative, said 1,500 to 2,000 Ukrainian Orthodox Church churches had been seized in Ukraine since 2022, often amid violence and mass beatings of believers and clergy. He warned that up to 3,000 historic churches and monasteries could be forcibly confiscated in the future.
