CultureFlowers trapped in time: The art of Huacao Paper
Huacao Paper, made in Shiqiao Village in Guizhou’s Danzhai County, is a 1,400-year-old craft using mulberry bark and Tang-dynasty techniques. Artisans press fresh flowers and leaves into wet pulp before sun-drying it. Its finest Yingchun Paper can last 1,500 years and is used to restore ancient texts at the Forbidden City. The heritage craft now also appears in lamps, fans and bookmarks and is exported to more than 40 countries.
