SocietySanya to strengthen environmental measures under China’s new code

Sanya, the resort city on China’s Hainan Island, plans to tighten environmental governance following the launch of the country’s new Environmental Code on August 15. Measures include restoring vegetation, expanding mangrove forests, improving pollution monitoring, penalizing violations, expanding electric-vehicle charging and cycling infrastructure, and tightening oversight of construction, industry, commerce and restaurant emissions. Authorities also plan to raise residents’ and tourists’ legal awareness.
