Philippine Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro warned that Beijing could exploit the recent shortening and scaling back of US-South Korea military drills to reassert itself in the Asia Pacific. He said Washington had given Manila “definite assurances” that its commitments to the Philippines remained unchanged, and accused China of spreading “distortive narratives” through democratic systems.
