The Chinese mainland accused Taiwan authorities of deliberately distorting facts. Taiwan recently issued two reports alleging that PLA ships and aircraft regularly conduct combat-readiness patrols around the island. Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin called the reports excuses for the Democratic Progressive Party authorities to stoke fear of war and pursue “independence” by military means.
