Russia expressed solidarity with Niger after anti-government forces attacked government facilities in Niamey on August 29. The Foreign Ministry said national troops, assisted by Russian Defense Ministry African Corps personnel, repelled the attacks and that the situation remained under the control of the legitimate authorities. Moscow pledged continued support for Niger’s fight against extremists and wished the Alliance of Sahel States peaceful development and stronger sovereignty.
