TechPopular Bitcoin wallets risk losing support for new hardware devices as HWI nears retirement

Bitcoin’s Hardware Wallet Interface, or HWI, is moving toward retirement after years of largely solo maintenance. Its maintainer says no new devices or features will be accepted beyond MuSig2 work, after which a final release may follow. Rust-based BHWI is a potential replacement, but the handoff is not production-ready. Existing wallets are not expected to stop working immediately; the burden falls on downstream software teams.
