China’s Commerce Ministry spokesperson Huang Ling said Thursday that Beijing firmly opposes a possible additional 7.5% U.S. tariff on Chinese imports and reserves the right to take necessary measures. She called Washington’s Section 301 investigations into 16 economies over alleged “excess capacity” an attempt to politicize trade and an act of unilateralism and protectionism.
