Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Lake Ontario’s name, derived from the Wendat word Ontariio, is more than 400 years old and predates both Canadian Confederation and the US Declaration of Independence. He said Canadians will continue calling it Lake Ontario after Donald Trump ordered it renamed Lake America.
