TechBitcoin Core’s optional transaction index shrinks by 40 GB, but only after a rebuild
Bitcoin Core merged a redesigned optional transaction index that reduced one contributor’s rebuilt mainnet database from about 66 GB to 26 GB. Existing indexes remain readable after upgrading, but operators must recreate them to capture the full saving. Downgrading afterward would require another rebuild under the older format.
