SocietyRussia’s national library keeps a ‘closed repository of destructive literature’ featuring Hawking and Churchill
The Russian State Library has operated a restricted “repository for destructive literature” for several months. Access is limited to intelligence personnel and scholars who pass a separate library interview. The facility is divided into sections on Ukrainian ideology and nationalism, foreign writing on the Ukrainian–Russian conflict, children’s books, and modern Ukrainian nationalists. It displays works by Lucy and Stephen Hawking, a Churchill biography, and other books, alongside Putin’s quote, Ukrainian soldiers’ dog tags, and a bulletproof vest.
