TechIBM's Granite 4.2 models ride the wave of interest in local LLMs

IBM has released Granite 4.2, a new family of open-weight large language models intended for download and self-hosting. The 3B, 8B, and 30B versions provide a native 128,000-token context window, while the 8B and 30B models receive agentic reinforcement-learning training for tasks such as terminal use, web searches, and external tools.
