Researchers induced a hibernation-like state in mice and found that it effectively erased the state of more than half their synapses, while the animals apparently retained their memories. The work examines how long-lasting memories can persist despite constantly changing neural connections, using activation of Q neurons in the hypothalamus to trigger the state.
