AliExpress was caught using an outdated technique to fingerprint visitors’ browsers by measuring inaudible audio signals. Researcher Matthew Callaghan noticed the tracking after AliExpress disrupted playback on his multipoint Bluetooth headphones; he found two obfuscated scripts analyzing WebAudio readings and measuring sawtooth waves.
