The US has removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism after 47 years, saying the decision clears the “final major barriers” to private investment and reintegration into the global economy. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it recognised the Syrian government’s efforts to distance itself from international terrorism.
