Beto Coral campaigned in Florida against Colombian presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella, whose candidacy was endorsed by Donald Trump. Secretary of State Marco Rubio then alleged Coral had engaged in political activity against a foreign candidate and said the Department of Homeland Security could facilitate his departure. Coral says he was detained for 30 days and mistreated before leaving for Colombia in July.
