WorldFamilies agonise as thousands remain missing in Gaza
Ten months after a ceasefire was declared, thousands of Palestinians remain missing in Gaza. Ahmed al Madhoun, a 21-year-old man with Down’s syndrome, disappeared in May 2025 after going to a local shop. His mother fears he was killed in Israeli strikes, but also worries he may have been detained by Israeli forces. The Red Cross has received more than 5,000 tracing requests, while Gaza’s Civil Defence estimates more than 8,000 people are missing.
