In Deir el-Balah, a beachside art space offers young survivors of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza a refuge to process trauma and rediscover joy. Sixteen-year-old Maryam says drawing helps her express feelings she cannot put into words, regain a sense of achievement and nurture hope amid loss and destruction. A psychologist says creative activities can provide emotional release and a sense of control, though they cannot address every psychological effect of war.
