HealthPoor sanitation and water shortages hamper Ebola response in DRC town
Water shortages and inadequate sanitation are hindering efforts to contain Ebola in Mongbwalu, a gold-mining town in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Ituri province. Residents often walk several kilometers to collect spring water, while Oxfam says only one in five of the town’s estimated 140,000 people has reliable access to safe water. Mining runoff may also contaminate groundwater.
