WorldSouth Africa seeks repatriation costs from African states
South Africa is asking Malawi, Ethiopia and Nigeria to reimburse part of the nearly $18 million spent accommodating and transporting tens of thousands of their citizens who returned or were deported amid immigration tensions. The government says 82,875 people have been repatriated or deported, while migrants’ home governments estimate the figure at about 178,000.
