WorldRomania shuts only nuclear plant as heat sends Danube levels plunging
Romania has shut its only nuclear power station at Cernavodă after prolonged hot weather drove the Danube to exceptionally low levels. Its two reactors provide about 20% of the country’s electricity, and the plant is not expected to restart within 10 days. Low water is also cutting hydropower output and disrupting European rivers, agriculture and transport.
