ScienceCruise ships, quiet towns and an all-day festival: millions flock to eclipse viewing spots across Europe

Beginning in Russia’s remote Arctic north, the eclipse followed an arc across large parts of western Europe, with Spain, Iceland and Greenland offering some of the best views. From the UK to northern Italy, tens of millions looked skyward as the setting sun was almost completely obscured. Daylight darkness brought falling temperatures and suddenly quiet birds, while towns marked the event with festivals and other gatherings.
