SocietyFaced with ageing population, Vietnam seeks to curb falling birthrate
Vietnam is confronting a sharp fall in its birthrate as its population ages. The country, home to more than 100 million people, was once known for large families, but fertility has dropped to 1.9 children per woman. The decline is worrying the government after more than four decades of a two-child policy aimed at controlling population growth. That restriction was officially lifted in June 2025.
