PoliticsVictorian microparty MPs face re-election struggle after group voting tickets abolished
Victoria’s parliament has passed a bill abolishing group voting tickets by 33 votes to four. Under the new arrangement, voters must rank at least five parties above the line in order of preference. The change is expected to make it harder for prominent microparty MPs, including Georgie Purcell, to retain seats in the state’s upper house. Victoria’s Legislative Council had been the only Australian upper house still using the system.
