EconomyUK heatwaves may have cost economy £4.4bn in lost output this year, analysis finds

Repeated debilitating heatwaves during the summer may have cost the UK economy more than £4bn in lost output by the end of July, according to new analysis. Green thinktank Verdant previously estimated that June’s unusually hot weather had cost £2.36bn. After incorporating last month’s high temperatures, it now puts the loss at £4.4bn. Verdant says the annual cost could exceed £25bn by 2030, and calls for a maximum working temperature and urban redesign aimed at cooling cities.
