WorldCrowds heading to Spain for solar eclipse could trigger more ‘devastating’ wildfires

Northern Spain is expected to draw about 460,000 additional visitors because it will be among the world’s best places to see Wednesday’s total solar eclipse. Spanish authorities warn that people moving into hills and onto beaches for clearer views could raise the danger of fires. Environment minister Sara Aagesen said during a visit to Niebla in southern Spain that vegetation is exceptionally dry. She cautioned that even a tiny spark or careless act could result in devastating forest fires.
