PoliticsNew head of Australian trade union movement named after Sally McManus steps down
Melissa Donnelly, national secretary of the Community and Public Sector Union, is set to become the next head of Australia’s trade union movement. She will replace ACTU secretary Sally McManus after McManus steps down. ACTU secretary McManus and president Michele O’Neil announced last month that they would leave after eight years working together. Their tenure formed the first all-female leadership team in the ACTU’s 99-year history and played a major role in shaping the Albanese government’s workplace agenda.
