SocietyKurdish filmmaker recounts ‘inhumane’ ICE force-feeding: ‘They shoved the tube so hard it tore my nose’

Gabar Choli describes months in immigration detention during which he says he was shackled, pinned down and forcibly fed. In June 2025, he was held in a solitary medical cell at the Port Isabel service processing center in south Texas. The facility is operated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and holds immigrants arrested during Donald Trump’s anti-immigration crackdown. Choli says the ordeal left lasting physical and emotional scars, including an injury to his nose caused by the feeding tube.
