WorldRussian authorities immediately called the Moscow restaurant bombing a terrorist attack — then stopped talking about it

An explosion struck the upscale Balzi Rossi restaurant on Kudrinskaya Square in central Moscow on the evening of August 1. Within two hours, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee said it was a bomb blast. The following morning, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin labeled the incident a terrorist attack and pledged that those responsible would be found. Authorities then fell silent, apart from one social-media post by the Russian Embassy in Italy. Questions about the incident remain unanswered.
