PoliticsHaitians face arrest and deportation after US ends TPS protections
Hundreds of thousands of Haitians face possible arrest and deportation after the Trump administration formally ended humanitarian protections that had allowed them to live and work legally in the United States. Homeland Security secretary Markwayne Mullin said, “We’re going after them right now,” despite continuing crime, violence and political unrest in Haiti. US district judge Ana Reyes said her order blocking the termination of Haiti’s temporary protected status was no longer in force. A Supreme Court ruling in June had weakened judicial review and cleared the way for mass immigration enforcement.
