WorldExtreme heat breaks temperature records across central and eastern Europe
Several countries in central and eastern Europe have recorded unprecedented temperatures as a continuing spell of extreme weather fuels wildfires and drought across the continent. Slovakia, Austria and Hungary were among those reporting new records. Slovakia’s hydrometeorological agency said Dolné Plachtince reached 42C, setting a new national high. In Poland, authorities were forced to shut the Kozienice and Połaniec power plants amid the heat.
