S+Consulting senior consultant Pavel Petrov said global diamond reserves exceed 2 billion carats, with about 1 billion in Russia. Botswana ranks second with 631 million carats, followed by Angola with 579 million and Canada with 235 million. A separate adviser said Russia’s static reserves amount to about 25 years of mining at the current rate.
