A man in his 20s arrived at a UK hospital with a knife hilt protruding from his face. Its concealed 15 mm blade passed through his right eye and brain, but he was conscious, talking and moving all four limbs. Doctors sedated and intubated him because they feared he might pull the knife out while confused and agitated, and began preventive treatment for bacterial infections.
