EconomyRussia moves to let airlines keep flying foreign-leased planes they never returned after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine
Russia’s Transport Ministry is proposing to extend a special regime through the end of 2028, allowing Russian airlines to operate aircraft and engines leased from foreign companies. The rules, introduced in 2022, let airlines retain planes leased before the full-scale war and insure them under Russian regulations. The EU had banned aircraft and parts supplies, maintenance, and insurance for Russia; Vedomosti says claims were settled on 204 of 407 remaining planes between 2022 and 2025.
