EconomyAustralia’s high court rules Uber must pay $81m in payroll tax on drivers’ wages

Australia’s high court rejected Uber’s appeal and ruled, by six votes to one, that its drivers are employees and their payments count as wages under New South Wales law. Uber owes $81m for 2015–2020, and liabilities for later years could push the total above $100m.
