PoliticsJapan’s defense chief again urges open discussion on nuclear weapons
Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi again called for a more open and frank discussion of nuclear weapons, saying at a Tokyo symposium that conditions should allow necessary security measures to be debated openly. His remarks come during a review of Japan’s national security strategy, which includes its three non-nuclear principles. He also left open the possibility of nuclear-powered submarines for Japan’s navy. Polls show more than 70% of Japanese citizens support keeping the principles.
