EconomyGECF chief estimates LNG market losses at 45 million tons in 2026

Gas Exporting Countries Forum Secretary General Philip Mshelbila said the international market lost about 45 million metric tons of LNG from March to September 2026 because of disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. About 39 million tons were supplied mainly from North America and other regions, while new capacity, deferred maintenance and higher plant utilization helped offset the shortfall.
