SocietyArmed police begin Sydney patrols after Bondi Beach attack
Sydney has begun heightened security patrols following last year's deadly shooting at a Hanukkah event on Bondi Beach. Specially trained officers will carry rifles in tourist areas, at major events and near places of worship. The planned unit will eventually number 250 officers; Jewish groups welcomed it, while others raised concerns about militarised policing and human-rights safeguards.
