Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Japan’s Toshimitsu Motegi on Friday that Tokyo must abandon its unfriendly policy toward Moscow before the countries can resume full-fledged dialogue. They met on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta. Japan has joined Western sanctions against Russia and increased criticism of Moscow since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in February 2022.
