CultureSacha Baron Cohen publicly apologizes to Kazakhstan, 20 years after ‘Borat’

British actor Sacha Baron Cohen publicly apologized to the people of Kazakhstan for his Borat character, saying the film had nothing to do with the country. He said he chose Kazakhstan because it was a place “that no-one knows anything about.” The authorities’ response shifted from hostility to acceptance, although the film never played in Kazakh theaters.
