Memorial’s Political Prisoner Support project says at least 69 people subjected to politically motivated persecution by Russian authorities have died in Russia since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. Illness and lack of medical care were the leading causes; the report also recorded deaths from beatings, torture, suicide, hunger strike, and the deliberate killing of Alexey Navalny in a penal colony.
