TechRussia proposes cutting off service to foreign-brought phones not registered within two weeks
Russia’s Digital Development Ministry has proposed requiring smartphones brought into the country from abroad for personal use to be registered by IMEI within two weeks from April 2027. Carriers would disconnect unregistered phones. The ministry says the measure targets one-by-one imports for resale; phones already using Russian networks before April 2027 would be exempt.
