HealthClimate shocks raise health risks for Africa’s most vulnerable

Rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, droughts and floods are worsening food insecurity and infectious-disease risks across Africa while straining fragile health systems. UNFPA humanitarian specialist John Wafula says women, girls, older people, people with disabilities and displaced populations face added barriers to services, while climate shocks deepen livelihood losses and displacement. WHO estimates climate change could cause about 250,000 additional deaths annually from 2030 to 2050 from undernutrition, malaria, diarrhoeal disease and heat stress.
