HealthDementia deaths exceed 10% of Australian total for first time as asthma deaths hit decade high

Australian Bureau of Statistics data show 188,421 deaths were registered in 2025, including 19,019 from dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease—the first time the condition accounted for more than 10% of deaths. Asthma deaths reached a decade high of 484, up from 478 in 2024.
