Political scientist Alexander Kynev, held in pretrial detention on charges of attempting to sell drugs, has begun a hunger strike, the legal advocacy project Slovo Zashchite says. His lawyer says Kynev cannot use the floor opening that serves as a toilet in a cell shared with 34 others because his broken leg is in a cast. Kynev denies the drug charges.
