The government’s 16-cent-per-litre discount is due to end on Sunday. The fuel-excise reduction was introduced at 32 cents a litre in March, when prices peaked, before being cut in half in July. Treasurer Jim Bowen has signalled that the relief will not continue, setting the stage for higher costs at the pump.
