WorldAlgeria’s president orders troops sent to neighbouring Niger
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has ordered troops to Niger to protect shared energy and economic interests, following a request for military assistance from Niger. Both chambers of Algeria’s parliament approved the move. If carried out, it would be Algeria’s first overseas troop deployment since 1973; the number of troops and timing have not been announced.
